Nurse’s View: What Student Nurses Have To Go Through During Their Training

Sabine’s new article for her regular column on Healthmanagement.org is now available.

This month’s article deals with the very important subject of student nurses and the huge burden they carry on the wards. In her roles as teacher and mentor, Sabine gets to hear the honest thoughts and reflections of these students. A worrying picture begins to emerge – why aren’t student nurses treated with more respect and compassion by staff nurses?

Sabine writes:

“Have we – staff nurses with tons of experience – learned nothing in the last years of nursing? Why are we so harsh with the students? Why do the students have to feel the mad pressure of ward work? Many cannot stand this madness of work and hide during their shift in toilets and cry.”

Please do have a read of this fascinating article.
